Communities that get involved in sustainable mobility profit in many ways: Residents value good public transportation systems, safe roadways and pedestrian paths and the high quality of life provided by no-traffic locales and residential neighbourhoods. Such factors make sense from the perspective of energy policy. Nonetheless, vehicle traffic accounts for a significant 35 percent of total energy consumption. Thus the targeted involvement of the community
is important and is intended to have an exemplary nature. As a part of the “Energy City” program, Arlesheim promotes sustainable mobility within the community through numerous, ever-increasing activities.
